A bit of history you may appreciate on Seth Wadams, one of the original owners of the property. On October 8th 1871, the city of Chicago had been caught up in fire causing total destruction where numerous buildings were totally demolished but all we have are 2 signs from Wilders Yard due to Seth Wadams heroic effort back then. The estate has several interesting stories about the people who lived their over the various eras.
In 1994, a group of government officials came together to discuss the future use of Elmhurst’s Wilder Mansion. They agreed that once the library moved out, it should be used by Park District for public events and other recreational activities. After discussions with community members and feedback on their decision, they decided to tear down an addition made in the 1960s while remodeling the original 1860-era mansion.
Wilder Mansion has seen its share of ups and downs. From being a historical landmark with an expansive past to becoming not so much, the house over the years would continue making history as Elmhurst’s premier event destination for hosting weddings, private parties, corporate events, or other special occasions like baby showers.
This magnificent venue built in the 19th century has been updated with all of the modern amenities for comfort. With 9 thousand square feet of space, you can entertain up to 250 guests at one time – perfect for any event! The spacious ballrooms offer various layouts so that every guest is comfortable – even those on crutches have room to dance their hearts out without being confined by a table! Four different rooms are available: three Ballroom spaces plus an adjoining Lounge where drinks and appetizers will be served as well as a Bridal Room which provides privacy during personal moments before heading down the aisle.
Wilder Mansion is wired with an in-house speaker system that provides background music throughout the building or in individual rooms, as well as a microphone and iPod jack to allow for karaoke. The entire house contains dimmable lighting, which can be changed at any time, so no event will feel dark! Additional audio/visual equipment includes a moveable large-screen video monitor, DVD player, projector, and screen. Specific equipment includes 42” Flatscreen Television (BluRay) and Projector Screen.
